December 8th is fast approaching and some of you are wondering which charities have been nominated so far??We’re so happy to announce that?our list is growing, we have 15?nominations this time! Here they are in no particular order.

1.?Canadian Centre for Male Survivours of Childhood Sexual Abuse

cc4ms was established to provide treatment, support and assistance to adult male survivors of childhood sexual abuse through healing, education, advocacy and research.

Our immediate goal is to continue building on our support infrastructure for male survivors and that $10,000 would go towards paying for men to get treatment who can’t afford the cost of treatment.

Our long-term goal is to build a centre in Calgary and funds not used on treatment would go towards achieving that goal.

2.?Epilepsy Association of Calgary

GOAL: To promote community awareness about epilepsy thereby enhancing acceptance and integration of the individual with epilepsy into the range of environments in which he/she lives, works, and plays.

3.?Neighbourhood Link

NeighbourLink buys cribs for their Infant Care Under Two (ICU2) program direct from the manufacturer. A gift of $10,000 would buy 100 cribs for Calgary’s smallest and most vulnerable citizens.

There are countless studies that show how important sleep is to the proper development of a child. If children growing up in poverty are going to have a chance, sleep and nutrition are paramount. The ICU2 program addresses this directly providing cribs, formula, diapers and other items to families in need

4.?Variety Children’s Charity of Alberta

Variety is a children’s charity that assists families with children that have developmental disabilities. They have an impressive rebuild story with a? lot of history. They have low overheads with 90% of money raised going directly to projects and families.?

The $10,000 would be used to purchase additional modified bicycles for children with developmental disabilities.

5.?Dreams Take Flight

“This year will be an exciting year as Dreams Take Flight will be able to take many more kids to Disneyland than last year with a donated 767. All funds raised in Calgary will go to the Calgary chapter and benefit Southern Alberta kids.

Some kids face physical challenges, while others are facing social challenges and some have multiple challenges. Most kids have never been away from a parent, many have never been on an airplane, and none of them have ever been to Disneyland.

6.?Oneball Charitable Cancer Organization

(a.k.a. Fight Testicular Cancer Federation of Canada)

Oneball?s mission is to raise awareness of Testicular Cancer, fund critical testicular cancer research, promote early diagnosis,?and provide meaningful assistance to patients one ball at a time.

That being said, Oneball believes that Cancer is not just a disease, it’s a community. What this means is that if you have?ANY?questions about cancer or the journey ahead, please feel free to drop us a line! You don’t even have to talk about balls.?We’re here to help.

  1. Testicular cancer is the #1 type affecting men between 15-35 years old.?
  2. 2. It’s a local Calgary-based charity.?
  3. 3.? The money will stay in Alberta, to raise awareness and assist patients struggling with the disease.

7.?Ups and Downs – Calgary Down Syndrome Association

Ups and Downs provides education and support for parents and social activities for children and adults with Down syndrome in Calgary and surrounding areas. Our vision is to secure a future where all individuals with Down syndrome and their families feel supported and connected in a community that fosters an environment of acceptance and inclusion.

8.?Ronald Mcdonald House Southern Alberta

Ronald McDonald House Charities? Southern Alberta provides a home away from home for out-of-town families with sick children receiving medical attention in a Calgary hospital. Though the House has grown and changed since opening in 1985, the purpose remains the same – keeping families together in a compassionate and comfortable, home-like atmosphere.

9.?Brown Bagging For Calgary’s kids

Through the work of community groups and volunteers, we provide lunches for approximately 2,800 kids each day. Lunches are prepared in our main kitchen, and in various other locations by community groups including retirees, parent groups and local businesses.
Nourishment is available to any young person who arrives at school without enough to eat. BB4CK works with school staff members to identify needs and to plan how best to make sure hungry students get the nutrition required to think clearly and learn. By enabling better education outcomes, BB4CK gives students a hand up, not just a handout.

10.?Sonshine Community Services

The Sonshine Center is a 1 year residential shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence and abuse. The 1 year stay is then followed by a 6 month community outreach support program to assist women and children with their transition into permanent housing and integration into the community. Support is required to to ensure the safety and basic needs of the women and children.

11.?Calgary Food Bank

Established in 1982, the Calgary Food Bank is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to gathering and distributing quality emergency food to those in need.

Because of countless thoughtful donations:

  • ?141,271 people were able to access emergency food during 2014
  • The Food Bank could provide food to 150?local programs and agencies such as the Drop-In Centre through the Food Link program
  • 3,000,000?meals?were provided to our clients in one year
  • The Calgary Food Bank was able to send food to 44?food banks across Canada during emergencies and times of crisis

12.?Calgary Reads

Calgary Reads acts as a bridge between home and school, working to create communities where reading matters. We engage corporate partners, champions, networks and systems (including education and health care) in this process. 13.?Breakfast Club of Canada

Breakfast Club of Canada was founded on the belief that every child has the right to succeed in life, to grow in their self-confidence, and most of all, have safe and reliable access to food. BCC operates 25 breakfast programs in Calgary and there are 19 schools waiting for support.

We would provide a school with equipment, funding, training and support to start up or enhance an existing program. $10,000 may be able to open 2 programs, depending on their size and equipment needed.?

Humanity in Practice (HIP) is about connecting people to simple opportunities that create powerful results! We connect people who want to help with those who need help.

Calgary?s School for Special Needs Education

We create a well-balanced, individualized, integrated, and intensive program for each student, designed to prepare them for re-entry into their community school as quickly as possible.
