What a great evening last night?s meeting was. From the 75+ men who showed up, our guest speaker Dave Mowat and his awesome training guide dog Vaughn, to the great presenters and their charities.
Last night was a success, and if you didn?t get an opportunity to attend (we know the Oil & Gas Show was on), you can still donate your $100 via this link:?https://100mencalgary.com/donate/?It?s never too late!
So on with it, what happened?

Returning Recipient

First, The Alex came back and told us how they allocated the $10k they received from us at our last meeting. The money was ear-marked specifically for their Dental Bus which services over 100 kids throughout the school year. The bus provides?oral health screening, fluoride treatment & dental education amongst other things.
The program costs $3600 per year per 100 children despite all dentists volunteering their time.
The sad truth is that despite Calgary being an affluent metropolis, The Alex Dental Bus does see full dental decay in children, which just doesn?t make sense when we have it so good here.
All in all, the money was put to good use and we?re grateful they came back to tell us how the money was used.

Charities

The 3 chosen charities for the evening were as follows:

1. Generations of Hope – @GenOfHope

Generations of Hope help couples in need of fertility treatments pay for the heavy costs, affording them the opportunity to build a family.?1 in 6 couples in Alberta suffer from infertility
To receive an application for a grant, couples must be a patience at the Calgary fertility clinic, have an analysis done that provides a positive chance for pregnancy, and not already have any natural born children.
Other sources of fundinginclude corporate donations and a yearly event.

2. Kids Cancer Care – @KidsCancerCare

Kids Cancer Care?s goal is simple, let kids be kids again via summer camp.
Through one of the two camps they operate (such as Camp Kindle), they provide children with the opportunity to enjoy life outside of the constant reminder of their illness. All camps have facilities and medical care to deal with any complications that may occur during the children?s stay.
99% of funding come from corporate, galas, golf tournaments and community, less than 1% of funding comes from government.
The cost of sending a child to camp is $1500, and nearly?700 Albertan kids go to Camp Kindle per year.

3. Between Friends – @CalgaryBFC

Between Friends has been around for 30 years, providing social and recreational activities to those with disabilities. They also utilize the power of summer camp?to help build connections, living by the motto, ?’Sometimes a friend is all you need?.
Annually Between Friends gathers nearly $1 million dollars, where only4% of that funding comes from government grants.
